GARDEN CITY, SC (WBTW) — One family spent thousands of dollars on a high-end rental home in Garden City, but when they arrived on Saturday, it was everything but what they expected.

Now, Georgetown County is involved, and the family is packing up disappointed.

“Just trying to enjoy the beach and a vacation,” Bill Collins said. “We’ve had a vacation nightmare.”

In April, Collins booked a recently renovated seven-bed vacation home in Garden City for the week. It boasted an oceanfront view featuring second and third-floor decks.

But when the family of nine arrived on Saturday, they were shocked to find key features missing, in addition to exposed wires, cracked windows, loose deck railings, protruding sharp nails in the outdoor shower, missing steps to their private beach access, and a locked door that led to a wide-open shed.

Sea Star Realty said the steps to the beach access were washed

The summer of 2022 peaked early, in June, with a trip to South Korea for the Seoul International Book Fair. Founded in 1954, the SIBF was held fully in person again for the first time since the pandemic discouraged large literary gatherings, or moved them mostly online, in 2020. Masked, jet-lagged, and functionally illiterate, I wandered around the exhibits in Hall A of COEX (the equivalent of the Javits Center)—almost two hundred book-related enterprises, including publishers from China, Canada, France, and Germany—and was surprised to be greeted by name. It was not that my fame had preceded me; I was simply one of very few non-Asians in the room. I was also recognized at the booth of my publisher, Maumsanchaek, by Hanbi Na, a young woman with dyed gray hair, who turned out to be an editor. The booth displayed copies of the Korean translation of my book about copy

Many travelers are opting to travel lighter to avoid baggage fees and the worries associated with lost baggage. As frequent flyers know, you can fit more than you’d think into one carry-on bag. To help you plan for your next week-long escape here is how to pack for a week’s vacation with only a carry-on bag.

The right carry-on suitcase

Depending on the size of the plane, double-check the size of your carry-on suitcase to ensure that it will fit in the metal sizers as well as the overhead compartment. A poly-carbonate suitcase, like the Carry-On Pro made by Monos, will keep your belongings secure and protected while in transit, while also ensuring that your luggage will keep its shape no matter what you stuff into it.

Invest in packing cubes

While packing cubes might feel like a trendy packing item, they actually serve the dual function of organizing

A Highland Park woman was recently victimized by a pair of squatters who took over her apartment while she was on vacation — wearing her clothes, using her shower and claiming the place was theirs when police came calling.

She told CBS Los Angeles reporter Lesley Marin all about the incident, which happened when she and her roommates were out of town and the couple broke into their apartment through her bedroom window.

“All my clothes, down to the underwear, the socks, my Yeezys, my pants,” Virginia Pinto recalled.

That wasn’t all they took advantage of, apparently camping out in her room, using her bed and bathing in her shower during their extensive stay, which began some time before the woman was arrested on Aug. 9, when one of the roommates returned home and came face-to-face with the squatters.

When she called police, the man
